supercell - 告白 Kokuhaku

The second ending song for Guilty Crown. 告白 read as kokuhaku, translates to confession (of love). A pretty cheerful song i should say, so much so that sometimes after a sad episode it feels out of place. I think the first stanza is something to look out for.
 If you sacrificed yourself to save me, how should I think when I am all alone?
The rest of the lyrics depict this very everyday situation between a boy and a girl. A "what if?" situation for Inori and Shu if they were just normal students in our world.

EGOIST - The Everlasting Guilty Crown

The second opening to Guilty Crown. Compared to My Dearest, this song is more intense as the anime heads towards its climax in its second season. I feel that Koeda now has a better mastery over her voice and I am starting to enjoy her singing more.
The lyrics this time touches on conflicts again. With reference to Guilty Crown, in a collapsing world where everything is grim, don't lose sight of important things. We all have the strength to continue living.
To sum it up, it's a song by Inori for Shu in season 2.

Egoist - エウテルペ

This is the song that captured the hearts of many when it was played right at the beginning of Guilty Crown episode 1.
Translated as Euterpe, out of the various people/things Euterpe can refer to, I find that the definition of Utopia is the most apt for this song. Thus, Euterpe in this case is a word that simply suggests perfection. Much like how Utopia suggests a perfect place where everyone can live happily and peacefully. However, in this song the definition is used more as a contrast and opposite to the lyrics in the song which centers around the question "Why can't human beings stop fighting?"
There is another definition of interest. Euterpe can also refer to one of the 9 muses, daughters of the Titaness Mnmosyne and the God Zeus. Euterpe is the muse of music and lyric poetry and this might come into play when Inori's past is explained in future episodes.

Egoist - Departures ~あなたにおくるアイの歌~

Today is the day the ending song CD of Guilty Crown goes on sale! With it also comes the insert song we heard in episode 1 of guilty crown, Euterpe. As such, I will be doing a double translation post special for these 2 songs sung by chelly, supercell's other guest vocalist.
Firstly, the artiste for this song is the fictional band Egoist from the anime Guilty Crown in which the heroine Inori is the vocalist. However, in real life, the song is written by ryo from supercell and the person providing the voice for Inori is chelly, supercell's guest vocalist.
Departures is well, a song for a person leaving. The title translates to Departures ~ a love song for you~. The lyrics depict the sorrow from an inevitable leaving of a lover and at the same time, reminiscing the past relationship. Is this yet another foreshadow of the relationship between Inori and Shu from Guilty Crown? Only time will tell.

supercell - My Dearest

My second post will be a translation of supercell's new song, My Dearest. Supercell is a band that has no fixed vocalist. Instead, they like to pick a guest female vocalist every once in a while to sing for them. These vocalists even include hatsune miku, a vocaloid. I have been listening to supercell since the time when nagi was their guest vocalist. Nagi is a person on nico nico douga (simply put, Japan's youtube) who covers songs, kinda like sam tsui on youtube. I might do translations of her songs with supercell in the future.
Well anyway, back to the focus of this post. This new song, My Dearest is the opening song for the new anime series called Guilty Crown. As ryo (composer of supercell) himself said, this song is meant to convey the feelings of wanting to be a unique pillar of strength to your loved one. For those who watched Guilty Crown, this can be seen as an illustration of inori and shu's relationship. Also, there are certain bits in the lyrics that can be seen as references to the anime but I will leave it to you to discover them as you read through my translation. Enjoy.
