University has been really crazy, as shown by my total inactivity on this blog. There were so many good songs being released that I wanted to post about but my work is piling way over my head. Amidst all the tension and stress that I am feeling, the people who pulled me through, my friends and family, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Without you all, maybe I would have given up a long time ago.
Miseinen, not of age, a minor. Despite turning 21 a month ago, I feel that I still have a lot of growing up to do. Voted as the number one fan-favorite song of the GazettE a while back, this song really tugged at my heart strings. I don't want to forget myself, I want to be as I am.

The GazettE - Ibitsu 歪
University life is so busy. I finally got a chance to listen to The GazettE's newest album DIVISION. This song ibitsu is one of the two cover songs with their own music videos.
Ibitsu can be translated as distorted, irregular or even warped. Sounds like what The GazettE will write about. I find the lyrics to this song to be extremely descriptive and it really fleshes out its own world as you listen to it. This is the "world-view" of the song that The GazettE so often talks about.
Sometimes when you sit down and start thinking about yourself. Your contradictions and maybe even how the world has degenerated over time. Of course, you shouldn't be so pessimistic all the time but when you do decide to think about such things, ibitsu is a good song to listen to.
Small translator note: both imagination and creation are read as "souzou" in Japanese.

Unite - Misawa Sachika 三澤紗千香
The second ending song for Accel World is sung by misawa sachika who is kuroyuki hime's voice actress in the anime. The guitar riffs are surprisingly addictive and the ending animation was really cute, accurately portraying hime's feelings towards haruyuki.
The lyrics are pretty simple and talks about how hime has changed after she met haruyuki. How she broke out of her shell and actually regained motivation to try for her goal of beating the Brain Burst program again.

ALTIMA - Burst The Gravity
The song this time is the second opening for Accel World. I fell in love with this song just from hearing the first phrase. I guess I really like female vocals and especially if they throw in a male rapper reminiscent of the band High and Mighty Color. The english in this song isn't too bad too and the song in general is really catchy.
Anime-wise, Accel World has really moved on. From introducing the Brain Burst system, now we are seeing how people change from using the system. How human beings change when they are given power over others. Are all human beings ugly deep in the inside? Exploring all these while giving us really flashy combat scenes at the same time.

Lack of posts
Hi. I'm about to start university soon and as such I have been pretty busy as of late. The frequency of my posts will definitely drop but I will try to post whenever I have the time to. Thanks for your patience.

飛蘭 Faylan - Kimi to ita hibi 君といた日々
While watching today's episode of Gundam Age, a new insert song played. It was Faylan's voice and the song sounded really familiar and then it hit me. It was a song included in the White Justice single and the lyrics were specifically written for Lu and Kio.
Kimi to ita hibi, the days we spent together. After watching the episode, my head was screaming "LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!"
Even though we just met, you brought color into my life. Even if I cannot see you again, thank you for teaching me the happiness of living.
My respect for Faylan has once again increased. She writes the lyrics for all her songs and the lyrics for White Jusitce and Kimi to ita hibi were just so spot-on. Not to mention that she has a really awesome voice too. Thank you for enriching my Gundam Age experience.

AKINO with bless4 - Eve no danpen イヴの断片
Fragments of Eve. This is one of the final insert songs for Aquarion Evol. Performed by AKINO with bless4, this vocal and dance unit has been providing the theme songs for the Aquarion series. Composed by Kanno Yoko of Macross and Ghost in the Shell fame, you can expect a high level masterpiece tailored to the anime and the performing artiste.
Aquarion can be summed up with one word and that is "Love". It is about love transcending time and space, about love overcoming the material and mental planes. It is about undying love as the characters get reincarnated every 12,000 years and yet still fall in love with the same partner. All that with a dash of superhuman powers and giant combining robots and you get Aquarion.
For Aquarion Evol, it felt pretty boring at the start but it started to pick up near the end when many truths about the story surfaced much like the first series. It isn't a must to watch the first series but it is advisable to at least read the legend of Aquarion from the wikipedia page.
Fragments of Eve illustrates the complex emotions felt between the hero and heroine.

Aquarion can be summed up with one word and that is "Love". It is about love transcending time and space, about love overcoming the material and mental planes. It is about undying love as the characters get reincarnated every 12,000 years and yet still fall in love with the same partner. All that with a dash of superhuman powers and giant combining robots and you get Aquarion.
For Aquarion Evol, it felt pretty boring at the start but it started to pick up near the end when many truths about the story surfaced much like the first series. It isn't a must to watch the first series but it is advisable to at least read the legend of Aquarion from the wikipedia page.
Fragments of Eve illustrates the complex emotions felt between the hero and heroine.

JP - Boku ni Invitation ボクにインビテーション
The day has come. I never thought this song would make it into its own single but rather as part of the anime's original soundtrack. Boku ni Invitation by JP is the opening song to the anime Polar Bear's Cafe or Shirokuma Cafe.
Well, first let's start off with the anime. Polar Bear's Cafe is probably the most entertaining anime I have watched all season. I would categorize it under comedy with a tinge of slice of life. The animals in this anime walk and talk and basically just blend into the human society while retaining their animal appearances. However, it is so absurd at the beginning when you see a polar bear and a panda walking around town that you can't help but burst out laughing. The humor in this series is akin to Daily Lives of High School Boys (another comedy anime from last season). The jokes come out of nowhere and slap you in the face (metaphorically, of course) leaving you laughing like an idiot.
On to the song itself. Boku ni Invitation is a song written specifically for Polar Bear's Cafe. The lyrics depict a journey to find the Polar Bear's Cafe and how it soothes the customers from the stress of everyday life. The singer JP was born in Hawaii, explaining the Mahalo (Hawaiian for "thank you") so frequently repeated in the song. The bamboo for diet bit is a reference to what Panda always orders at the cafe. JP is a singer, songwriter, producer and model. He has provided backup vocals for singers such as American Idol winner Jordin Sparks and Grammy Award winner Michael W Smith. He has also produced songs for artistes such as DBSK and MISIA.

ナイトメア Nightmare - the WORLD
Well you must be wondering why did I dig up this old song. Recently, a new anime song cover album contributed by various visual-kei bands titled Counteraction was released. In it, there was a cover of this song, the WORLD, by GUILD. Listening to this song again reminded me of how awesome it was and how apt the lyrics were for the anime Death Note but this time with a new flavor as it was played by a different band.
This song was originally written and performed by the visual-kei band Nightmare and was used as the opening song to the anime Death Note a couple of years back. Death Note being a highly-acclaimed manga was also a very popular anime and using this as a platform, Nightmare's music was exposed to a great deal of people. As such, they became more known and gained tons of fans.
For those who do not know Death Note (the minority I suspect), it is about a notebook capable of killing people by just having the target's real name written in it. A genius teenager got his hands onto this notebook and with this gained the power to change the world by being able to kill off the "right" people. With so many mysterious and coincidental deaths, an internationally-acclaimed detective was hired to find out what is really happening. The series focuses on the clashes between these two great minds and explores what is right and what is wrong.

This song was originally written and performed by the visual-kei band Nightmare and was used as the opening song to the anime Death Note a couple of years back. Death Note being a highly-acclaimed manga was also a very popular anime and using this as a platform, Nightmare's music was exposed to a great deal of people. As such, they became more known and gained tons of fans.
For those who do not know Death Note (the minority I suspect), it is about a notebook capable of killing people by just having the target's real name written in it. A genius teenager got his hands onto this notebook and with this gained the power to change the world by being able to kill off the "right" people. With so many mysterious and coincidental deaths, an internationally-acclaimed detective was hired to find out what is really happening. The series focuses on the clashes between these two great minds and explores what is right and what is wrong.

ステレオポニー Stereopony - stand by me
Stand by me is the ending song of Eureka Seven AO.
It is written and performed by Stereopony, a 3 member all-girl rock band. They have been contributing songs to animes like Gundam 00, Darker than Black etc.
I have been following Stereopony since I heard their song Namida no Mukou from Gundam 00. They tend to write really catchy songs that are easy to sing along. As such, they have many collaborations with animes, dramas and even television advertisements.
Stereopony's lyrics tend to be simple and straight to the point so their songs are a good resource to pick up Japanese.
Stand by me talks about how even though separated physically, people are still connected.

Hemenway - Escape
This time, it's the opening song for Eureka Seven AO. I didn't watch the original Eureka Seven (and am too lazy to start it) so there are a lot of unfamiliar terms in AO. The animation is top-notch though and hey I'm a mecha person so the IFOs in the series really attract me. The plot seems to be picking up speed with the appearance of Truth who is supposed to be an alien as I understand from comments I read.
Pardon my little knowledge of the series and let's move on to the song. This song is written and performed by Hemenway, a 4-man band. All 4 of them studied in the same music college in Boston and Hemenway is the name of a street there where they shared many memories. The interesting thing is that 2 of them are Korean-Americans with great interest in Japanese culture. As such, the band can freely write between 3 languages.
The song is based around the feeling of escaping. Not really running away but more like the feeling of soaring into the skies and away from worry. Personally, I really like the guitar in this song and there is even a Lightning Guitar Version of Escape in the single where the guitar take over the vocals part.

飛蘭 Faylan - WHITE justice
Just came back from a short vacation and realized that a lot of songs were released while I was gone -_-.
Oh well, the song this time is the ending song for Gundam Age-3. I have seen Faylan's songs here and there while browsing sites but this is the first time I actually listened to one of them. I must say, I am pretty addicted to this song. I sing along every Sunday when Gundam Age airs.
Wanting to know more about Faylan, I went to her official blog and I must say, that is one gorgeous lady. Not only does she sing but she writes her own lyrics as well. According to her blog entry, the WHITE from the song's title refers to the color of the Gundam. From my understanding of the lyrics, WHITE justice depicts the feelings of the warriors involved in a war.
If you think you have heard the whole song with just the TV size ending, you are quite mistaken. The full version packs a few twists and turns and there is even a ballad version that comes with the single.
With regards to the anime, Kio just went through the grow-up-after-someone-dies phase much like his father and grandfather. I am expecting really great things from him after his demonstration of his incredible X-Rounder abilities.

Oh well, the song this time is the ending song for Gundam Age-3. I have seen Faylan's songs here and there while browsing sites but this is the first time I actually listened to one of them. I must say, I am pretty addicted to this song. I sing along every Sunday when Gundam Age airs.
Wanting to know more about Faylan, I went to her official blog and I must say, that is one gorgeous lady. Not only does she sing but she writes her own lyrics as well. According to her blog entry, the WHITE from the song's title refers to the color of the Gundam. From my understanding of the lyrics, WHITE justice depicts the feelings of the warriors involved in a war.
If you think you have heard the whole song with just the TV size ending, you are quite mistaken. The full version packs a few twists and turns and there is even a ballad version that comes with the single.
With regards to the anime, Kio just went through the grow-up-after-someone-dies phase much like his father and grandfather. I am expecting really great things from him after his demonstration of his incredible X-Rounder abilities.

May'n - Chase the world
May'n, short for Mei Nakabayashi, is a young diva in the japanese music scene. She is best known for being Sheryl Nome's singing voice in the series Macross Frontier. She possesses a powerful voice despite her young age and has been to many countries to perform.
Chase the world is the opening song for the anime series "Accel World". It is written by Akio Inoue and composed by Daisuke Asakura, the two creative minds behind Takanori Nishikawa's T.M.Revolution. (Takanori is known for Rurouni Kenshin's ending theme "Heart of Sword" and countless songs for the Gundam Seed series)
Accel World is set in a world where everyone is connected to a global network via a neuro-linker. A certain group of people was selected to possess the program called "Brain Burst" which enables users to accelerate their minds and perform superhuman feats. Users enter the network in their avatar form and fight other users to gain points that allow them to accelerate in the real world.
Haruyuki the protagonist is a short and pudgy boy who is constantly bullied at school. He got introduced to the program by the school's idol Kuroyukihime. The story is about how Haruyuki's life transform through using the program and how the two of them fight on to unveil the truth behind the program and the true potential the human brain holds.

Haruna Luna - 空は高く風は歌う Sora wa takaku Kaze wa utau
The sky is high, the wind will sing. This is the ending song for Fate/Zero season 2. As with all the Fate/Zero songs so far, the lyrics touches on sadness and a journey to change things.
With the episode that just aired, we got a glimpse (ok maybe not, it WAS a full episode) of kiritsugu's past. We found out what made him the way he is now and that he was a kind little boy before the incident happened. With that, his whole perspective of the world and the people that lived in it changed. Yet, he still wants to save the world albeit in a more drastic way abandoning the pretty things like "chivalry" and "playing fair".

秋赤音 Akiakane - 文学少年の憂鬱 Bungaku shonen no yuuutsu
The song I am translating this time is by Akiakane. Similar to Yanagi Nagi, she is a nico nico douga singer. She is also a talented artist and animator however she has never shown her face to the public. Akiakane is known for her strong vocals and screamo but the song I am sharing this time is a slower one. ViViD - REAL
This is the opening song for Gundam Age, the third generation. Gundam Age is an anime that runs through three generations of main characters. They are namely Flit Asuno, Asemu Asuno and Kio Asuno. Grandfather, father and son respectively. My World by SPYAIR was the ending song during Asemu's generation.
Age-1 was about sacrifices and war, death and revenge.
Age-2 was about growing up under great expectations and realizing that no one can be yourself but yourself.
I am looking forward to what Age-3 will bring.
Moving on to the song. ViViD is a visual-kei band under PS Company and they are The GazettE's juniors. ViViD has provided theme songs to anime such as Level E and Bleach. However, I feel that they have toned down their sound for REAL, similar to what The GazettE did for Shiver(opening theme to Black Butler 2) It is not as heavy as their other tracks but its still a pretty good song.
I dislike how there are a lot of closeups on the members' faces in their promotional videos but I think fan-girls will disagree. Nevertheless, they still make good music and I like the vocalist's voice. REAL is a song about motivation to fight. Something that is very needed if you send a kid to war in a Gundam. Well, Kio's story isn't well-established yet since only 1 episode of Age-3 has been aired. However, just like his dad and grandad he possesses qualities of a hero. Courage and selflessness.

ChouCho - 優しさの理由 Yasashisa no riyuu
The reason for kindness, yasashisa no riyuu. The opening song for Hyouka.
I must say, I love the animation for Hyouka. The sweet explanation graphs when Oreki the main character is solving mysteries, the transitions in the opening song. Everything just flows so smoothly. Even though the anime is set in school, the dialogues are so interesting and really set me thinking. Oreki being a "low-energy human" who doesn't like being overly-enthusiastic and his motto of not doing unnecessary things and if it's necessary, to do it as fast as he can. Things like that really make this anime interesting. However, this makes the anime hard to sub. As I was watching it, many a time I didn't know what the characters were saying without relying on the subs. Also, there were some controversy over which sub group's subs were more accurate.
On to the song (finally). This is the first time I am listening to a song by Choucho. The composition isn't mind-blowing but its really easy to listen to. Pretty upbeat track and smooth vocals. I found the lyrics to be descriptive and imaginative, just like the accompanying animation. It is probably a song describing the feelings of Chitanda (heroine) towards Oreki. Although I do wish that there is more to her than just being in love with Oreki.

Kalafina - to the beginning
Haven't posted for a while but now that the new anime season has started, I should be doing more translations. This time, it's a song by Kalafina for Fate/Zero's second season. The three ladies are known for their impressive vocals and are no strangers to anime songs. They have previously done songs for animes like Madoka and Kuroshitsuji.
Personally, I have watched Kalafina perform live in Singapore and I must say, they sound way better live than on CDs. Not to say that the recorded tracks are bad but it's just that the talent they possess is the real deal. On a side not, they have very pretty music videos too so be sure to check that out as well.
To the beginning shares the same vibe as most of their other songs. Astounding vocals and harmonizing. With regards to Fate/Zero, the lyrics portray this beautiful yet tragic end. I didn't read Fate/Zero's visual novel so I don't know what is to come but I am not expecting it to be the happiest ending.

supercell - 僕らのあしあと Bokura no ashiato
Black Rock Shooter (BRS) ended today at 8 episodes. One of the shortest series I have watched but still it was good. BRS was anything but typical, to me at least. I guess it was sort of a growing up anime but with very intense emotions.
School students having to deal with extreme family backgrounds and how they break down under all the stress. At the same time, each of them have an avatar in another world who are all fighting and bearing their pain for them. This is a very simplified summary for BRS so if you are confused, you should definitely check it out. It is only 8 episodes long after all. On a side note, I really liked the ending as it wasn't something I would expect after watching the first few episodes. Also, some words of caution to those who want to watch it. You need to really prepare your mind for the incoming intense mind screwing but rest assured when you actually finish watching the last episode, you will feel a lot better.
Now, about the actual song. The title reads "bokura no ashiato" which translates to "our footsteps". It is by supercell and it came in the same CD as kokuhaku. It is a song written specifically for the anime with "the other me" being their avatars in the other world. It is a soothing song that really calms you down after each episode of BRS.
