UVERworld - MONDO PIECE

I was watching UVERworld's 2010 last tour final when Takuya∞ (Uverworld's vocalist) said something that struck me. He said he read an interview of himself a few years back.
Back then, he said he would quit music when he couldn't get along with his band mates anymore. He would quit music when he couldn't make music that was better than what he was making at that time. He thought he sounded cool but looking back at it, he said "It was very selfish of me. Where did the feelings of the staff and the fans go to?"
Takuya∞ started writing lyrics when he was 20 years old. He said to everyone at the concert venue that it is not too late to start what you want to do even at that age. Life goes past in a flash, soon you will be in your 20s, 30s, even 40s. Shout out your dream, if you cant even do that much then it will never come true. Fight for your dreams and it will come true.
This song, MONDO PIECE was played at the ending credits roll along with a photo montage of the band, their staff and fans.

Girls Dead Monster - My Song

This is a song written by the fictional character Masami Iwasawa and performed by the fictional band Girls Dead Monster in the anime Angel Beats. There are two versions of this song sung by the characters Masami and Yui respectively. Of course Yui's singing voice is provided by LiSA.
The fictional character Masami Iwasawa lived a tragic life with her parents always fighting at home and even resorting to violence sometimes. She escapes into the world of music and well I won't spoiler the people who haven't watched Angel Beats yet.
This is a really sad song with lyrics describing how Masami found the strength to live in this cruel and ugly world.

High and Mighty Color - You

High and Mighty Color, most probably the first Japanese band I ever listened to and most probably what got me into Japanese music in the first place. Sadly, they disbanded. Their selling point though, is a female vocalist who sings and a male vocalist who sings and raps and screams and growls. Its very rare to mix the soothing female voice with rock and screamo and thus High and Mighty Color has this very unique sound to them.
This song "You" is sung by their second female vocalist Halca. The first female vocalist Maki got married and left the band. This is from their last album Swamp Man.

LiSA - Oath Sign

LiSA, an acronym for Live is Smile Always. Making her debut as yui's singing voice in the anime Angel Beats, LiSA has taken the world of anisongs by storm.
Her next collaboration with anime is the song Oath Sign, the opening song of the anime Fate/Zero. I first heard the full version of this song live at the annual Anime Festival Asia held in Singapore. The energy LiSA had along with the live band members was something constantly pulsating throughout the audience. It was definitely a performance to remember. For those interested, the performance can be found on the internet as nico nico douga was streaming the performance live.
Oath Sign basically describes the feelings of the people involved in the Holy Grail War in the anime Fate/Zero. A battle of survival between sorcerers and their servants who are ancient heroes manifested with their mana to serve them. The survivors of this Holy Grail War will gain the Holy Grail which grants them the ability to have any one wish fulfilled. As such, it is an impure miracle built upon the demise of others as touched upon in the lyrics.

Egoist - エウテルペ

This is the song that captured the hearts of many when it was played right at the beginning of Guilty Crown episode 1.
Translated as Euterpe, out of the various people/things Euterpe can refer to, I find that the definition of Utopia is the most apt for this song. Thus, Euterpe in this case is a word that simply suggests perfection. Much like how Utopia suggests a perfect place where everyone can live happily and peacefully. However, in this song the definition is used more as a contrast and opposite to the lyrics in the song which centers around the question "Why can't human beings stop fighting?"
There is another definition of interest. Euterpe can also refer to one of the 9 muses, daughters of the Titaness Mnmosyne and the God Zeus. Euterpe is the muse of music and lyric poetry and this might come into play when Inori's past is explained in future episodes.

Egoist - Departures ~あなたにおくるアイの歌~

Today is the day the ending song CD of Guilty Crown goes on sale! With it also comes the insert song we heard in episode 1 of guilty crown, Euterpe. As such, I will be doing a double translation post special for these 2 songs sung by chelly, supercell's other guest vocalist.
Firstly, the artiste for this song is the fictional band Egoist from the anime Guilty Crown in which the heroine Inori is the vocalist. However, in real life, the song is written by ryo from supercell and the person providing the voice for Inori is chelly, supercell's guest vocalist.
Departures is well, a song for a person leaving. The title translates to Departures ~ a love song for you~. The lyrics depict the sorrow from an inevitable leaving of a lover and at the same time, reminiscing the past relationship. Is this yet another foreshadow of the relationship between Inori and Shu from Guilty Crown? Only time will tell.

supercell - Sayonara Memories

As mentioned in the previous post, this translation is a song by supercell with Yanagi Nagi as the vocalist. The title this time translates to goodbye memories.
This song portrays a girl's feelings towards her crush whom she eventually confessed her feelings to in the end. Other things to note are the references to typical Japanese high-schools. Graduating in spring, the time when the sakura flower blooms and the hilly paths they take to school. Stuff that are often portrayed in works dealing with high-schools really.
On a separate note, nagi's voice is so beautiful ♥
